When our Lettings Manager, Rob Sider, left Whittley Parish to pursue a new life in bonnie Scotland although we were sad to see him go, we wished him well as we waved him off across the border. Keeping in touch with his ex-colleagues was always important to Rob and we were thrilled to hear of his new employment position as a DJ hosting the lunchtime show on Bute Island Radio. Robs love of music, along with his impressive collection of vinyl, set him in good stead to share his music knowledge and present content to the population of Bute but therein started the desire to create and establish his own radio station.A move back to Norfolk during the pandemic and, with more time on his hands, Rob had the opportunity to explore his ambition of building a local community radio station. Starting with a mixture of jingles, his own playlist and some clever software Rob’s project was complete and Waveney Valley Radio was launched on 21st January 2022. You could hear a wide range of popular hits along with a variety of specialist music shows where the songs are played as they were meant to be heard i.e., with no editing! Featuring all music genres from Rock to Reggae and Soul to Country and with their audience reaching as far afield as the USA, South Africa, and Finland it gives great satisfaction to Rob and his team to deliver shows with a difference.
Waveney Valley Radio’s focus is very much being a local station and recently Waveney Valley Voices has been formed to give local people from all walks of life the chance to join them on air, tell their stories, share their thoughts and of course their music.
Broadcasting online from Thursday through to Monday and with an impressive team of presenters the future is looking bright for the station. At Whittley Parish we are proud to be associated with this local business and wish them well in all of their future projects.
